As time changes so does the man with many faces.
My love for Michigan football began when I was 10 years old and living in New Jersey. There was something about that Maize and Blue that grabbed my attention every time, even from afar. My older brother had a Michigan jersey that I would steal and wear every week to school because I was so in love with Michigan.
In 1999 I had the opportunity to move to either Columbus, Ohio or Ann Arbor, MI and the clear choice was Ann Arbor. I moved one block from the stadium and I made it a point to walk past the stadium everyday. Within 3 years I became fully engulfed in Michigan football, the University of Michigan, and the Ann Arbor Community.
In 2003 ThisGuyGoBlue was created. From 2003 until today I have evolved tremendously. I started out just tailgating with a couple of friends; now I walk 5-6 miles every game day visiting tailgates and waking people up, getting them excited for the game. I also love to use my platform to give back to the community. I have raised thousands of dollars for charity, including the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer research. I look forward to working with fans to bring awareness to other under-funded causes.
In 2014 and 2015, I place second for the Big Ten Fan of the Year. I have been featured in Honda ads, The Grill Iron sponsored by Hyundai, MLive's pilot series For The Love of the Game, and The University of Michigan Buses. In 2018, Dos Equis was the main sponsor of the National College Championship game in Atlanta, GA (Alabama Vs Georgia). Dos Equis ran a national campaign leading up to the championship game which featured Jesse Palmer (ESPN Host), Rob Riggle, The Most Interesting Man, and Matt Leinart (Former Heisman Trophy winner and QB at USC). The campaign was called "The Most Interesting Fan in College Football." The event was filmed live at the National College Football Hall of Fame with the grand prize of being, the first fan inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame. Although I did not win the grand prize, I was the runner up. It was an awesome experience to be apart of such a great event.
The difference between me and other fans: I pride myself on never using the same paint scheme twice. The question I get asked most often is, "Who does your face paint?" I do! On game days it typically takes me about 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours apply my own make up. I wake up at 4:00 am to get the madness started. I travel to both home and away games, deep into enemy territory. Yes, we are talking Ohio State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, etc. You have never been boo'ed until you slap on some paint and really put yourself on the front lines. The goal is always to be seen and let them know Michigan is here! But better yet, I aim to put smiles on everyone's face that I come in contact with. I promote with great passion my positive energy and also my message: be yourself, no matter what.
